Snowstorm walk home (haibun)

With snow-filled sidewalks, I’m  forced to walk home on the street. Snow plows were only clearing main arteries and our bus skidded a few times across le Pont Champlain. Challenging snow drifts made me only appreciate more, the crunch crunch underfoot upon virgin snow.

      1. You should seriously consider, Cheryl-Lynn! Malaysia has a great retirement package for foreigners. It’s called, Malaysia My Second Home. Lots of foreign friends have taken up on that. 🙂

  1. Only a few really bad blizzards here. Mostly cold – last year it was the cold not the snow that closed businesses and shops.

I do remember though having to shovel. Easier to clear our drive with our snow-blower, when there is too much of it. other wise it can be push/shoveled or just swept. This morning it was 32F. Frost in the shade. Though it is almost 50 F now. Might get to go out for a bit. Cold weather is on the horizon.

    1. Yes, now that I don’t have a car, I am not so worried when it snows…well, I worry for my kids but I don’t have to shovel my car out of the snow and slip and slide and avoid other cars. I do enjoy walking after a storm though…nice to walk on virgin snow and the air is so calm.

      1. Well .. some good comes from every bad they say. I never learnt to drive until about 6 years ago, so did everything either on foot, with my scooter or using public transport. I like to walk in the snow when it’s falling … gives me a great feeling.

      2. Ah … it’s a great way to travel except in winter of course … but when you read my haibun you’ll understand what I mean.

  2. Yes – best to stay on the couch with that book! But if you have to be out in it, that crunching snow means safety compared to the silence of the ice …..
