CDHK ~ Seed – The Pilgrimage

Mike Talbot put so much energy translating this, I decided to translate the thoughts here:

sprouting seed
budding ever gently
genuine patience
just, at the right moment
blossoming gracefully

Recklessness and miracles January 11 2017 (troibun)

The postman finally delivered Paulo Coelho’s The Pilgrimage yesterday. Paulo was so anxious to meet his guide that he almost gave himself away to the first man he met at the well, a  cunning man who offered to find his sword for him.  Paulo found that idea tempting so he could return to Brazil and deal with his business. Finally his guide arrived asking him a question which was the password and Paulo responds with the keywords.

under blue skies
blinded by golden star
imminent clouds

under blue skies
under the rubble
children still hide

blinded by golden star
dreaming of miracles
unaware of demons

imminent clouds
providing storms
also lessons

Petrus, his guide warns him to be watchful for there will be more demons along the path. And then his guide gave Paulo a lesson on humility when they were discussing miracles. Petrus explains that the path to knowledge is not only open to intellectuals and thinkers but to everyone including the common people.

Mystical moment (troiku)~ first steps to Santiago

Troiku

ghosts in the trenches
soft breeze from the mountains
watching over me

ghosts in the trenches
whisper deeds of loss
and victory

soft breeze from the mountains
birds singing along the road
to Santiago

watching over me
transcendental moment
spirits show the way

stalling with purpose (haibun)

They set sail early in the morning leaving Venice- en-Québec to meet friends in Vermont for a picnic. He steered the cat keeping the mainsail taut. There was a soft breeze in the morning at barely ten knots but by noon it had dropped. They might not get to Grand Isle in time. He lowered the sail and leaned back and let her tack the jib searching patiently for a puff here and there. For the first time in years, the children were at their grandparents and they were finally able to talk without interruptions.

promise (troiku)

remembering
tackling disappointments
empty promises

remembering
daydreaming
my refuge

tackling disappointments
crushing spirits
but, for a moment

empty promises
silenced
lost in the wind

50 shades of snow (troibun – haibun)

first snowfall
awakening her inner child
snow kissed cheeks

Yet snow has many phases and qualities that can be fun and sometimes not so fun. Like wet sticky snow may be heavy for shoveling but such a joy for children.

pounding and rolling
sculpting with a mission
first snow man

pounding and rolling
lining up a whole bunch
snowball fight

sculpting with a mission
carving a few huge blocks
home in her snow fort

first snow man
always wishes for the cold
keeping him safe

Stepping onto virgin snow is always a special feeling and depending on the temperature the textures change.

mild wintry walk
snow falling ever so lightly
like fairy dust

Dipping just a few degrees can make winter feel so magical and fun…

snow showers
soft and plentiful
like down filled bedding
spreading limbs luxuriously
making perfect snow angels

Ah, but as the thermometer dipped much lower last week, she had to wear her down filled coat, ski mask and pilot hat with the ears down as well as snow pants and her down filled mittens the snow adds a new element for having been on the ground awhile. It forms a crust invisible to the eye but not to the ears…

footprints forming waves
weaving with her winter boots
light of the full moon
sounds echo with each step
shadow keeps her company

angelic voices echo
