Daily Moments – reflections of spring – May 15/17 (Troibun)

Spring is really here, she thinks as she walks along the boulevard. Finally, lawns are brightening from last season’s slumber. Dandelions are starting to poke their heads here and there, a sure sign of warmer times to come. Such a treat to walk outside in lighter clothes, no longer the weight of winter coats and fur lined boots, she ponders as she sneezes and wipes her teary eyes.

Awakening to the bright sunshine allowed her to take this to mean it would be a hopeful day. Finally a pleasant spring day in May, compared to the cool damp day the days before.

As she walked out the door to catch her bus, the sky was overcast. Slightly disappointed, she sighed and checked her mailbox and a glow of sunshine reappeared.

There is nothing like the feeling of rich dark soil slip through your fingers when planting a garden. Gloves will only rob you of that sense of life at your fingertips. Think about the erotic sensation of a piece of  cheese cake or decadent truffles; feel the smooth richness on your tongue…

arching their bodies
nature’s sweet arousal
nestling in its moistness
in and out, in and out
worms surrender blissfully

A troiku is a new haiku form created by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai

Written for Poetics Tuesday Dverse-Poetics Pub- Soil Poetics

Today at DversePoetsPub, Björn Rudberg (brudberg) in Poetics wants you to write poetry about soil. This is what he says:

“To me soil is both the source of life, and destiny for death. Soil is where we come from and soil you’ll be:

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust

I both love and hate the scent of mulch. I love the growth and fear decay. I love to walk barefoot in warm dirt, but afterwards I wash my feet.
Soil gives grain for bread, but when the weather fails we die of hunger.
Soil is friend and foe.

There are many synonyms for soil: mulch and compost, dirt and grime, earth and ground all reflect the soil and various values we attribute to its worth.
Soil can be metaphors for land and country, for home and nations. For war and peace and for the roots of trees.
Taste the soil or bite the dust, bring me poetry from what you sense in soil.
Be gravedigger or gardener, be soil of your origin and dig it deep.

love blossoms – Daily Moments – May 7 2017 (Troibun)

The three women walked along the riverside reminiscing of times passed. Approaching an old vegetable garden two of them, scrunched up their noses at the putrid scent. The eldest seemed not to notice the stench and paused looking at a crow cawing on a branch.

Walking towards her children, one woman contemplated for a long moment. Inhaling a deep belly breath, she paused and felt a spasm in her chest as if her heart was bursting at the seams.

In the past few years she has been altering her way of meditating. Rather than consciously searching for  a quiet place to tune out for a few minutes, writing waka (Japanese poetry) has entered her life and added to another way of musing.

Her thoughts and feelings about a day, an event and especially about nature has become welcoming moments of contemplation. It is also a wonderful way to detach from the busyness of a day and look more carefully under a few layers and truly reflect within. Nature seems to have that effect in bringing out those hidden layers and connecting with nature.

Check out her beautiful piece at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai where she writes about  ‘the poet’s craft'” and creates a series of beautiful haiku and tanka.  For this meme, the theme she leaves us with is to reflect on our own experiences as haiku and tanka poets.

first day in May (Troibun) Daily Moments – Tan Renga

http://chevrefeuillescarpediem.blogspot.ca/2017/04/carpe-diem-tan-renga-challenge-month.html

Aw, finally spring is really here!  She loves May for many reasons…budding blossoms giving hope, lilac trees burgeon and tulips reaching to the sky in so many brilliant colours.   She remembers as a young child in primary school, the month of May meant she was allowed to go out on a school night.  She would put on her Mary Jane’s that her mother had brought from the shoemaker.  The taps had been added on the tip and heels. They said it was to prevent the wearing of the shoes. But she just loved to hear the clickety click when walking on the sidewalk to church.  She would change into something pretty, bring a sweater for the walk back home and of course place her rosary in her little purse.

Clickety click, and on she went but entering the church the clicks echoed so loudly, even tip-toeing made heads turn. Old ladies with thin lips and silly hats frowned disapprovingly but there were always one or two that knew her mother or grandmaman and nodded approving her presence to recite the evening rosary to  Mother Mary.

Carpe Diem Haiku Kai – Tan Renga

time spins (troibun)

Our host, Chèvrefeuille, at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai presents us with a meme of the Spiritual Way – Imagination giving us the choice of four photos for our inspiration.

Time seems to loiter
slowly crawling uphill
each laboured breath
wheezing to the top
mayhem starts to enter
idol pandemonium
down, down, down
spiralling carelessly
or so it seems to me

twists and turns
clutching by the sides
hurling anecdotes
of a drawn-out past
settles in the present
warning for the future
unless…

mastering these moods
feelings and obssessions
hurdles that care less
dealt once in the past
habit keeps them near
patterns that have settled
trick me into believing
how powerless am I
and yet…

given it some thought
rational and real
oh! silly do I feel
preoccupied with naught
then…

praying to the universe
chanting consciously
feeling the absurdity
lifting and disappear
now…

how I must be mindful
when time does unravel
effort downhill travel
with an intense speed
settling’s just a habit
how I do know better
and I have discovered
this long-awaited gift
spirituality and me,
chanting passionately
gently brings me back
to virtual reality

hanging on to
unlikely and naïve

likelihoods

do add up

the unknown
invisible to humans
held by the divine

Daily moments – Time spins April 20 2017 – troibun

bliss… frozen in time (troibun)

©Clr`17

Walking through the thicket, the woman stops a moment to admire wild daisies. It is mid-day and the sun is commanding nature to acquiesce to her splendid rays. Birds perched in the shade of their home are silent as they embrace their afternoon siesta except for a few chirps from fledglings resisting their nap. And then, the concert begins…from tree to tree sopranos tell their story while another group sing the refrain…piercing sounds mesmerize and finally the last of the fledglings give in to their lullaby.

spellbound
cicadas take centre stage
nature listens

The woman crouches slowly, taking a picture of her subjects; she smiles at the effect the soft wind has on the flowers. It appears the daisies are waving and smiling with their golden centres boasting towards the sun. And then, she freezes…

blue butterfly
perpetual trace
on her cheek

blue butterfly
on tender petals
wings unfold

perpetual trace
sounds of summer
of her youth

on her cheek
fluttering wings,
still caress

At Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, our host and mentor, Chèvrefeuille gives us a spiritual meme where we can choose among four photographs for our inspiration. They are A young mountain monk, Laughter, Time Flies and Tranquility.  The image of a clock depicting how time flies is what inspired my haibun/troibun but more than just time flies…how a split second experience can imprint forever in my mind.  The blue butterfly visited me from April to November, 2015 following the death of my mother December 2014.  I have never seen such a constant presence as this beauty before or after.  I know, deep down, she was helping me in my grief.

And now the memory of my experience with the blue butterfly brings me such joy…

http://chevrefeuillescarpediem.blogspot.ca/2017/04/carpe-diem-namaste-spiritual-way-8.html

I feel such laughter in my heart, imagining the daisies also chortling…like the monks in the photo our host has given us.  By the time I had completed the troiku(a new form of haiku created also by Chèvrefeuille), I felt my whole being washed with a sense of tranquilty. So, I suppose I was influenced by all four photos and left with a lingering sense of wellbeing.

Perhaps I was also the young monk from the mountain observing the memories of my youth…my mother and the blue butterfly.

early performance (troibun)

Awakened by the silence, she sits in darkness looking out her beach house window. Anticipation quickens as nature begins its daily performance…

(troiku)

the early bird thinks
time to catch
the sleepy worm

the early bird thinks
feeding her fledglings
before sunrise

time to catch
gulls keep with the rhythm
fish caught in the waves

the sleepy worm
floats in despair, falling prey
to fowl play

cat’s eyes (troibun)

Which tree will the hummingbird choose this year, she wonders, looking out the window from her dining room. Rocking in her old maple chair, the constant groan is weighing on her eyelids. Suddenly, eyes widen as a bird sets on  her balcony.

starling sings her song
dawn of spring
cat’s eyes follow

starling sings her song
pre-season rehearsal
practice makes perfect

dawn of spring
sun melts snow
earth finally revealed

cat’s eyes follow
on the windowsill
sleepy fly stirs
