boiled rice slop
his old lady fans the treat
with evening coolness (Basho)
cups of green tea clink
toast of love and family
chanting songs,
grandmother’s warm embrace
cousins holding hands

Carpe Diem Tan Renga Challenge #91, Basho’s boiled rice slop

When I saw this prompt and Jane Reichhold’s haiku referring to the shape of “wild rivers” and “ferns” I could not help but be right at my special spot by the river rapids and so I decided to add my thoughts in a Tan Renga. I hope that’s okay.

the joy unfurls

from a treetop
emptiness dropped down
in a cicada shell (Basho)
interrupted grief
life still goes on
cicada
turns a new leaf
fresh shrills
nature moves forward
abandons yesterday

feeling alone
in the woods around Edo –
just the autumn wind (Yozakura)
colorful leaves dancing
through the abondend city (Chèvrefeuille)
feeling alone
in the woods around Edo
just the autumn wind
whirlwind of panache
fleeting splash of colours
blurs cluttered minds
lost in a sea
self-pity

howling wind —
an autumn note within
the bamboo flute (Kala Ramesh)
rustling leaves prepare to fall
whistling wind turns into shrills
trembling twigs
awaiting emptiness
their naked fate

through the darkest hour
every tree top in the forest
adorned with a star © Ese
through the darkest hour
every tree top in the forest
adorned with a star
echoes of rustling leaves
trees shudder in mourning
grief deferred
rising star beams with joy

such a malice
cherry blossoms in full bloom
the Spring wind!

such a malice
cherry blossoms in full bloom
the Spring wind!
gusts rip such soft petals
sprinkling pink on park grounds
pacific wind
competes with silk beauty
on Stanley Park
some still cling to branches
braving these ocean winds

stroked by the lightning
delicate peaks of sand dunes
-silence before the storm (Ese)
ear piercing booms subside
pastel arch clings to the sky (Tournesol)
