budding promise
on the Pacific coast
cherry trees sway
Yet east of the country in Québec weather has its highs and lows…white as it may be, fluffy and unique in each detail, these snowflakes but still, SNOW is a four letter word!

A lovely prompt to write a haiku about cherry blossoms in our mother tongue with the English translation. English is my mother tongue, so I have translated in French which is my second language and “the” language of my province. Here is my troiku about cherry blossoms.
cherry blossoms
majestic and generous
shade lovers kissing
cherry blossoms
budding promise
love is in the air
majestic and generous
pink showers
silken petals fall
shade lovers kissing
a love story
in spring
fleurs de cerisier
des amants s’embrassent sous l’arbre
imposantes et généreux

I often write about the cherry blossoms at Stanley Park in Vancouver. My first trip there, I met a lovely Japanese couple at the airport on my arrival. It was early April, and they encouraged me to visit Stanley Park, proudly telling me how the Japanese government has donated many cherry trees to Vancouver. I’m so glad they told me and was so enthralled by the beauty of a park situated by the Pacific Ocean, bursting with pale pink flowers throughout the park.

I learned later that High Park in Toronto has many cherry trees. “How could I have missed that?” I scold myself, having lived so close to that park for thirteen years. It was only when I moved back to Montreal did I hear of these cherry trees.
