Daily Moments – Narrowing Focus Carpe Diem
Looking out the window, she takes note at this part of winter she enjoys so much. Sitting comfortably in the warmth of her home, her furry friend sits by her side, content her mistress is home today.
She sees a car drive by covered in snow and only a small circle in the windshield brushed off to see. She sighs. She had strict rules about driving in winter and always took extra time to scrap the snow off all the windows of her car. “One less thing to worry about, now” she thought to herself, since she no longer had a car. No more stressing to get anywhere that public transit or a taxi couldn`t do just as well and safely.

The Secret Keeper Prompt: PART | STONE | FLAW | STRICT | NOTE |

A clear night under shimmering stars and full moon added Christmas magic. It almost compensated for no snow. Early morning groan of the mega snow plow scraping pavement was a welcome sound. Looking out the window, that childlike sense of wonder washed all over her.

December 27’15 Daily Moments
Memories of long ago so vivid, she can taste it. A young girl walks to school in the bitter cold. Crunch crunch, echo from her tiny feet. White smoke comes out her mouth like magic and dewdrops trickle from her eyes clouding her vision.

a perfect day
sky so blue
surreal
sun aglow
warms winter’s hands
melting snow
I burst with love
from every pore
to feel so prised
and ever more
heart melted like sun stroked frost
frozen ponds and icy streams
this felt just like
those corny dreams
it was in fact
a perfect day
a birthday spell
that fills my heart
still feel it swell.

would surely melt
my heart’s aglow

I feel a bit silly after writing my love of spring weather and embracing that “feel good” ambiance on my way to work this afternoon…hence the tanka, Love is in the air. As I stepped out tonight to come home at 22:00, this is what I saw…I felt like writing a poem starting with SNOW is a 4-letter word but decided to turn this into an opportunity and write a more thought-provoking “free style” haiku for this haiga festival.

Sometimes I find myself pensive and somber in thought. It is often after I wake up and have had several mysterious dreams that stir my psyche. I come to the kitchen and start running water to clean my counter and then fill the tub with sudsy hot water. I often take a few dirty items from my dishwasher and wash them by hand. My mind is still churning as I continue to process a thing or two that requires something soothing like the repetitive motions of washing dishes.

We often equate tranquil moments with nature. Living across the street from a shopping mall with a huge parking lot, I find solace in hearing the concert of three to four snow plows at night. The roaring actually lulls me to sleep. Who would have thought that gigantic machinery such as these mega snow plows could be my winter lullaby?

winter wonderland
snow filling my balcony
sipping my java
redundant image I see
cars slowing their speed
public transit the smart means
at twenty below
feels like minus thirty-five
dressing warm for work
wrapped in wool and feather lined
with studs on my boots
sun still pierces through the clouds
squinting and slogging
shuffling my way to the bus
admiring this winter scene

CP Special Fuyuko Tomita’s “shadow”
On my way home last night I walked from work very slowly. Cutting across the bushes in back of our office was actually nice with the leaves all gone, it was just wide open snowy space. It was snowing again but it was very mild compared to the day before. So I took my time relishing the fact that I didn’t have to walk briskly to stay warm.
When I got on the street it was really nice to see the cars covered with snow, and quiet…it was late…so all I heard was the soft crunch crunch underfoot and the snow…you can hear it falling if you pay attention.
I thought the street lamps looked so pretty and took a few photos hoping to catch the falling snow…but alas, my smart phone is not a professional camera.

As I approached the lamp at the corner of an alley, I noticed a dark blob…not sure what kind of animal until I realized it was a cat sitting stoic; he looked like a statue and we stared at each other for a a good two minutes. I didn’t budge safe for my thumb on my smart phone. I was relieved I had turned off the clicking so that would have scared him off. Sneaky, huh? I did that last year so I could take shots of sunsets from the office window like the one above taken last week.

Well, monsieur le chat did not stick around too long and ran by me and just took off. I realized he may have just been waiting to get around me all that time. When I didn’t budge, I suppose he thought, silly old woman has a few loose screws, I’m outta here! and off he went. Or perhaps he was late for a rendezvous…the little matou!! (matou also means a player, have called buys matou many a times as a teen)
