Sometimes I find myself pensive and somber in thought. It is often after I wake up and have had several mysterious dreams that stir my psyche. I come to the kitchen and start running water to clean my counter and then fill the tub with sudsy hot water. I often take a few dirty items from my dishwasher and wash them by hand. My mind is still churning as I continue to process a thing or two that requires something soothing like the repetitive motions of washing dishes.

We often equate tranquil moments with nature. Living across the street from a shopping mall with a huge parking lot, I find solace in hearing the concert of three to four snow plows at night. The roaring actually lulls me to sleep. Who would have thought that gigantic machinery such as these mega snow plows could be my winter lullaby?

The rumble of snowplows for sleep… Funny and nice at the same time. Great work. 🙂

They were at it all night and I only hear them in the living room, so I slept on the couch to be lulled by it:)

Smart move. I used to live where the street sweeping truck came VERY early. It was less of a lullaby. 😉

Yes even the city plows are not soothing here but at that parking lot I just hear rrrrrroar from 3 am to 7 am:)

When I was in this program as a teen and we’d talk about what to do whenever we were angry my response was always ‘go clean something’ because that’s what I’d done throughout most of my life (and still do).
I also used to fall asleep when I had to do a bunch of MRIs in a short amount of time because the loud sounds turn into white noise.

Indeed! When I was very upset when I was younger I would change the furniture around and clean clean clean. I called it the Mary Tyler Moore Syndrome because on her show she would clean rather than tell the person she was upset with them.

My younger sister used to polish all of our dining room furniture when she was upset and hit with the motivation at the same time. Our parents had ladder back chairs.

It’s a perfectly usable method to calm down, I have no idea why I kept getting told to pick something else.

I know eh? I think my grandmother avoided many arguments with GrandPapa with her endless cleaning. He would chuckle at a room she had turned inside out and when her back was turned, he’d just mosey on to the corner pub to see friends. She would join him later in a better mood:)

Yes, the day to day routine sometimes isn’t routine at all.
