They lived in a modest house in the country. The young boy went out to the porch to get a cup of rice from a tall burlap bag. His mom was boiling onions in water with bones she got at the butcher.

rice floating
in beef bouillon
humble man’s soup
what lacks in chewy meat
enriched with a mother’s love

  1. One can never match that magic ‘love’ in recipes. I have tried on yeast rolls like my Granny Chandler’s, on my MIL sorghum chewies and many of my Mom’s dishes. Close but no cigar.

    1. Haha, no ciagar, eh? What a lovely expression! I make my grandmother’s dressing by tasting it over and over until it tastes like hers. She never gave anyone the recipe.
