Walking home from work,  she sometimes feels the pain of many weigh on her. Shuffling home with heavy foot, tears run down her cheeks.

Virgin snow (troibun)

Tonight, she left work passed midnight but her tiredness fled quickly breathing the nice brisk air and feeling the snowflakes fall on her face.

HaikuHorizons – Prompt is Look

Day One – Daily Haiku Challenge

the road is our teacher (haibun)

I love this part of Coelho’s book. I can relate to the long journey of nine years studying to get my degree. And throughout that journey I learned so much more outside the classroom. I learned more about myself. I don’t think I would have become the person that I am if I would have crammed it all in three years full time.
Last summer I went on a road trip. Rather than take two days to drive to visit my family 600 Km away and continuing on another 200 km to relax by Lake Erie in a secluded village, I took four days to get to Lake Erie. I drove along the lake making the trip that much longer due to the route and having to drive slower since I was on a secondary route. I stopped at several places to sleep and met amazing people who have also traveled to many other countries.  Staying at Airbnb’s that were humble homes, at affordable prices, I was able to get a taste of real living in some of the towns, getting to know the residents of each place…feeling more connected than having stayed at motels or hotels.
Just like my last trip at the end of December, I traveled  to San Francisco only for two days before going on to a 4 day retreat in San José.   I walked for hours despite the rain by the water and revisited many places as well as discovered new finds.

walking along similar paths
inhaling new insights

The retreat in San José was another experience as well since I had never attended a retreat completely alone. Within minutes at the end of the token line, I met someone who became my guide, my mentor and my new friend throughout the four days there.

CDHK – The Pilgrimage – the road is our teacher

Recklessness and miracles January 11 2017 (troibun)

The postman finally delivered Paulo Coelho’s The Pilgrimage yesterday. Paulo was so anxious to meet his guide that he almost gave himself away to the first man he met at the well, a  cunning man who offered to find his sword for him.  Paulo found that idea tempting so he could return to Brazil and deal with his business. Finally his guide arrived asking him a question which was the password and Paulo responds with the keywords.

under blue skies
blinded by golden star
imminent clouds

under blue skies
under the rubble
children still hide

blinded by golden star
dreaming of miracles
unaware of demons

imminent clouds
providing storms
also lessons

Petrus, his guide warns him to be watchful for there will be more demons along the path. And then his guide gave Paulo a lesson on humility when they were discussing miracles. Petrus explains that the path to knowledge is not only open to intellectuals and thinkers but to everyone including the common people.

Change in progress ~ Hopeful aftermaths

Change in Progress (Free Verse)
baking for change
stir a secret recipe
adding fixings that range
from rising
to explosive
from upsetting
to chaotic
unions
to schisms
disagreeing
to backbiting
rising to a degree
never really ever
ready for the decree
searching for results
win wins
or win lose
only wounds that need healing
delusions no longer standing
all on bended knees
asking what have we done?
no time to point fingers
mae culpa mae culpa
responsibility lingers
to one and all
not all but one
to one and all

Hopeful aftermath (Tanka – Senryu)

blending ideas
sentiments and politics
metamorphous
paths of polarity
travelling side by side

travelling side by side
empathy and understanding
meet at the middle

Daily moments December 13, 2016

Today I was admiring the above photographs that  were taken by my friend who is cycling through SouthEast Asia since last June. She and her partner are blogging their trip on Facebook at Tandem en Cavale. They have travelled through Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia,  and the photo above is meeting the sun at Meeting the sun at U Bein bridge, Mandalay on November 25, 2016.

What a way to end a perfect weekend! Her grandson’s visit and sleepover, to his basketball tournament, returning home to nap from such an exciting day. Awakened by her loving neighbour with a seafood bisque served in a blue ceramic bowl …her favourite colour!
