familiar and comfortable

We are asked by our host at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai to write a haiku inspired by this photo. I did not look at the title but just the image and let it speak to me.
She used to see sunrises when she was a teen; she would wait by the river, to see the sky break through grey, blue and magenta. The anticipation was palpable until the sun slowly rose, she would then give in to slumber until the warm glow upon her face would wake her anew.

Journeys have their tales of trials and tribulations. Each crossroad offers choices. Each obstacle offers a challenge…a lesson to embrace.
(troiku)
walk on
broken bridges
through dense fog
walk on
never ever give up
this boundless road
broken bridges
unlike shattered dreams
just a turning point
through dense fog
the Tea Pot
leads the way

Our host at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai presents us with a photo (above) to inspire our muse and imagination. A troiku is a new form of haiku created by our host.

Daily Moments September 4 2017 – Swaying Recalls (Troiku)

In the silence of the day
writing tales of such despair
quietens the soul
quietens the soul
misery released out in the air
sigh of gentle calm

September enters
a million leaves applauding
sudden rising winds
September enters
wrapped in woolen shawl
under clear blue skies
a million leaves applauding
preparing for autumn’s playground
bed of crunchy leaves
sudden rising winds
flying hats and pleated skirts
whistling boys’ delight

The circumstances of life will always keep changing. Change is nature’s unchanging law. However, it is we who make experiences bitter or sweet — our mind and our attitude. As long as we are unable to bring our mind under our control, sorrow will continue to hunt us down. However, once the mind comes under our control, then no problem or tragedy can devastate or paralyze us. In reality, the foundation of happiness is gratitude. When the mind becomes filled with gratitude, we will spontaneously become happy.” -Amma in New Jersey, June 29, 2017.

Ganesh Celebrations

I have continued to attend the Ganesh bhajans in the Kalari from 9 to 10 each evening. I love, love, love the high intensity, ecstatic music. The only reason I’m not sad that it will end on Sunday is that Onam and Krishna’s birthday are coming soon.
I love participating in the procession that goes to a nearby temple on Krishna’s birthday. The college students and brahmacharis do the same style of singing on that occasion that I’m hearing during Ganesh’s celebration, so I have that to look forward to. However, I’m also keeping in mind that the last time I was in Amritapuri on Krishna’s birthday, my back went out a few days before the big day and I couldn’t participate. I frequently remind myself that tomorrow’s not promised and do the best to make the most of today.

They walked along the riverside silently. Occasionally he would put his arm around her waist making sure she did not trip over the mounds on the grass. This would be there last time on the property. So many years passed. So many memories. A lifetime of giggles, squeals and splashing, crying and shouting echo on the water like a thousand and one ghosts. She turns her head slightly to look at her lifetime mate.
