Irish tea (haibun – troiku)

She enjoyed tea especially in her old porcelain cups.  On her father’s side of the family, the O’Donnell’s had enhanced their tea rituals with porcelain sets imported from their homeland. Over the years her great-aunt’s collection had grown so much only half was housed in the antique china cabinet she had inherited from her parents.

When tea was growing in popularity, teas produced in Assam were imported to Ireland from British East India Company offering a more robust flavour.

Daily Moments Jan 26 2016 – mother’s love (troiku)

snowflakes
tender bits
heaven’s grace

snowflakes
taste of winter
on my tongue

tender bits
silken petals
of cherry blossoms

heaven’s grace
showering her love,
mother nature

winters spent
making fun outdoors,
taste anew indoors

Haiku Horizons “spend”

cherry blossoms – troiku

A lovely prompt to write a haiku about cherry blossoms in our mother tongue with the English translation.  English is my mother tongue, so I have translated in French which is my second language and “the” language of my province. Here is my troiku about cherry blossoms.

cherry blossoms
majestic and generous
shade lovers kissing

cherry blossoms
budding promise
love is in the air

majestic and generous
pink showers
silken petals fall

shade lovers kissing
a love story
in spring

fleurs de cerisier
des amants s’embrassent sous l’arbre
imposantes et généreux

fleurs de cerisier
promesse bourgeonne
un aire d’amour

des amants s’embrassent sous l’arbre
une histoire d’amour
au printemps

imposantes et généreuses
corolles soyeuses déversent
une cascade rosée

Blue skies for Belinda (troiku)

(Troiku)

blue skies
sun rays lift
wispy clouds

blue skies
for Belinda
to make her smile

sun rays lift
like a mood ring
souls soar

wispy clouds
drifting lightly with such ease
floating heart

fire in the sky (haibun – daily moments)

The cold air awakened her. It was minus 22C and she just could not seem to warm her room this morning. She shuffled to the living room in her fleece robe de chamre. The sun rising slowly, catches her attention.

(troiku)

dawn of day
winter sky
seems less cold

dawn of day
ball of fire
slow rise

winter sky
melts with burning glow
that golden star

seems less cold
sky’s ablaze
warming hearts

the annunciation (troiku)

At the Secret Keeper, the weekly writing prompts are the following words:

WAIT | MEET | TEAR | ACCEPT | CEASE | which you can write various forms of poetry or flash fiction 300 to 500 words.

I decided to write a Troiku (a new haiku form created by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, one of my favourite waka forms.

The annunciation

(Troiku)

last Christmas Eve
it waits upon a crooked fence
a crow eyes its prey

last Christmas Eve
dark skies meet a mother’s grief
crushed – she must accept

waiting on the crooked fence
a mother’s relentless tears
will never cease

a crow eyes its prey
poor pinky* squeals for mercy
mother’s howl of woe

first light
golden glow awakens
birth of a day

first light
morning feed starts the day,
newborn cries

golden glow awakens
icicles spark wanting hearts
hope’s desires

birth of a day
filled with promise
new beginnings
