Daily Moments – teasing sparrows (haibun)

Having cleaned the windows yesterday, she thought this would make life more enjoyable; yet, watching her dear friend try to jump at birds in flight, she had to slide the window to leave a three-inch gap, so her friend wouldn’t fall through the screen.

Three Word Wednesday – winding unselfish amoral

girl on a swing (haibun)

Emily eats her  cookie on the swing  in back of the cottage surrounded by rose bushes, plum trees, a cherry tree and several milkweeds. She loves how the grass is tall  and she can crawl on her tummy and pretend she’s in the jungle. The grasshoppers often play dead on a blade of grass and she can outstare any bug and make it jump away.

The blossoms sure looked pretty, she thought as she passed a fallen petal gently on her cheek; it felt like Mommy’s silk scarf.

Autumn night–soliloquy no renga ~ Santoka Taneda

Autumn night–
I received it from the dog
And gave it to the cat.

purring cat nestles
I slip into hypnotic trance

wake up suddenly
chilly autumn breeze
frissons on my neck

dog rests at my feet
as I turn in for the night

chirps invade my dream
wet tongue on my cheek
beckons me

morning dew glistens
speckled diamonds on the grass

java on the deck
a leaf floats by my cup
cat jumps on my lap

dog takes chase
barks up at the tree

Now this was a very challenging prompt…I had no clue what to do about that dog and the cat. I kept asking myself, “What the heck did the dog give me?” And then I turned my attention to what my cat, Bette, would have done and this brought back fond memories of my Desirée, a mini-Schnauzer who would burrow under the covers until she got to my feet. It was a ritual every night.

Akita International Haiku Network

INTRODUCTION

In 2012, the 1st Japan -Russia Haiku Contest was launched with the help of JAPAN CENTER IN VLADIVOSTOK as one of the links with the cultural exchange between Japan and Russia, wishing to provide an opportunity to mutually share haiku related to the theme of “the sea” (The Sea of Japan) which connects Japan and Russia.

The organizer hoped that the contest would serve as an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding among people, to promote the interaction of people’s views on Japan and Russia, as well as to convey the enjoyment of reading or composing haiku.

The organizer also hoped that it would serve as an opportunity to strengthen and develop the sister city relationship between Akita and Vladivostok, as well as to…
