early morning rise
shuffling to make coffee
crunch of a cockroach
early morning rise
even spiders feel lazy
in the heat
shuffling to make coffee
grinding dark roasted beans
startles a cockroach
crunch of a cockroach
cutting through the morning haze
a piercing scream

This troiku, which is a new form of haiku created by Chevrefeuille was written for Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, with the summer kigo “cockroach”
Wow what a beautiful troiku. I had some difficulties with the “cockroach” as prompt, because I don’t like those small creatures, but your troiku makes them more beautiful creatures. I love how you have made the troiku your passion.

I was squeamish at first to write about them so I wrote about stories friends told me about their dark moments in apartments in the city. I have lived a sheltered life not having had them. Thank you for your kind words. I do love writing troiku!

I enjoyed your unwelcome gusts troiku, Cheryl! I especially like the alliteration in ‘crunch of a cockroach’, the inclusion of the lazy spiders and the intrusion of the cockroach in the morning coffee routine. 🙂

I am pleased you enjoyed it and that it did NOT spoil your morning coffee. I wonder if that is where Hershey was referring to when they named one of their candy bars, Coffee Crisp (for some reason I always called it Coffee crunch) [chuckling to myself]
