guarding the cornfield (troiku)

A troiku

perched on his post
overseeing the cornfield
cawing his presence

perched on his post
watching the sun rise slowly
behind the old barn

overseeing the cornfield
scurrying unnoticed
mice squeal with delight

cawing his presence
even the old scarecrow
stands at attention

the old woman – Troiku

(troiku)

marked with age spots
the old woman holds out a cup
with gnarled fingers

marked with age spots
having lived a long life
beauty rewritten

the old woman holds out a cup
invisible to society
people hurry by

with gnarled fingers
shelled nuts from her secret stash
feeds the squirrels

Haiku Horizons “spot”

whispering promise (troibun)

As a child August meant school was around the corner.  With mixed feelings she anticipated a new school year, that smell of fresh ink on new books, her best handwriting on that first page of her scribbler and so much promise to fill her mind…learning anew. Of course there were new students arriving in her little town and new relationships forming opening her heart she smiles, waiting with anticipation.   And yet, as months progress death looms in the air as leaves fall and grounds reek of decay…

(a troiku)

autumn leaves whisper
echoing
that first je t’aime

autumn leaves whisper
endings or new beginnings
paradox of life

echoing
mistakes repeated
over and over

that first je t’aime
fairy tale or mystery
still unresolved

She went up to the rooftop during her last break to see the sunset. It was a muggy day and rain in the air, so part of sky’s performance was shaded by pearly grey clouds.   The warm breeze was still soothing.  The view was spectacular with hues of pinks, greys and blues and to her  left over le Mont Royale with blues and tints of pink with a hint of the moon flirting with her.

What a nice way to relax in perfect silence and inhale the beauty!

dusk drawing near
fading on the horizon
muted sun sets

dusk drawing near
birds flock to their nests
hardly a peep

fading on the horizon
pinks bleed on blue canvas
a star’s last act

muted sun sets
over a still swamp
croak of a bullfrog

drawing breath

Daily Moments July 25 2017 poppies (troiku)

ice packs
on my belly
poppies for my skin

ice packs
cooling blazing itch
to a tickle

on my belly
too many fibres
eliciting heat

poppies for my skin
illusions of comfort
snow filled duvet
